Taieri Amateur Wrestling Club

Haere mai! Welcome to Taieri Amateur Wrestling Club!

Our wrestling club was established in 1943 and has produced many South Island and National champions, with a number of these going on to represent New Zealand at an international level (Brent Hollamby was our first in 1988).
Our club aims to provide a safe, secure, challenging, fun and family friendly environment where each child/adult is encouraged and supported to develop their own self discipline and wrestling skills. Our ultimate goal is to make the sport desirable and affordable for all families, regardless of income and background.

These forms are available at training
We use multiple means of communication with our wrestlers and parents, including Facebook, email, text. One of our primary sources of updated information about training, competitions, calendars, messages from coaches etc is with with the WrestlingIQ App (the schedule is also updated both here and on the App).

Who is wrestling for?

Open to all

We strive to provide a safe, inclusive environment where every person, regardless of skill level, gender, race, ethnic background, religious beliefs, sexual preferences or physical abilities will be accepted and appreciated. Wrestling is fun, but it is also a difficult sport; any person willing to come to practice and do the work will earn, and be shown, the proper respect. We are excited to welcome all to our community.

Staff

Meet our coaches and staff

  • Andy Anglemyer

    Coach

I grew up wrestling in the heart of the US, where wrestling dominated nearly all sport. I was very lucky to be trained by and with some of the region’s best wrestlers at the time and have maintained those relationships since. When we moved to Dunedin from Southland 5 years ago, my son (Lewis, 11) and daughter (Johanna, 13) joined Taieri Wrestling. I helped coach my kids initially, and then began helping more with the club in 2022. I am still a student of "NZ-style" wrestling, but the fundamentals are the same as the sport I grew up loving!

  • Simone Reynolds

    Coach

I have been at the Taieri Amateur Wrestling Club for just over 10 years. I am married with 3 children of which 2 were wrestlers. After watching my son wrestle, I decided to give it a go myself. I was lucky enough to represent New Zealand at two Oceania Championships in Tahiti (2016) and Guam (2017). Last year I gained my Level 2 Coaching Certificate with UWW (United World Wrestling) and am eager to apply some new skills. I have been the treasurer of the club for a number of years as well as assisting in coaching.

  • Beth Forgie

    Team Manager

I have been involved with Taieri Wrestling for many years, watching both of my kids come through the club.
